Cultural
Spain being under control of the new land had a major influence culture wise in most of these countries. Ideologies were one of the most important reasons why the revolution happened, for example the Enlightenment period. The Enlightenment period was a time where philosophers were writing books or ideas of why people should be allowed to rebel or change their government.
San Martín was training in Europe during this time and thought it was a great idea to bring those ideas back to the Americas. San Martín used the fact that the Spanish king was taken out of power and started the revolution. Bourbon reforms were a cause of seven years war between Spain and England which lead Spain that increased taxes, reinforced the centralized government, protected colonies and the foreign invasion. That was a long term cause of why the revolution happened in Rio de la plata. Catholicism was the major religion in the Americas because Spain is a Catholic country. Most people became Catholic and made some native people convert. In conclusion if Spain never discovered South America today, the culture wouldn't be influenced so highly in this region. |
