Spark Causes
War was the fundamental spark cause behind the revolution with Joseph Bonaparte in power in Spain, the revolution lead by San Martin in Argentina and the British attempts at attacking the region united them under a common cause, revolution. In Europe war was brewing and the brilliant French conqueror, Napoleon Bonaparte, had successfully taken over Spain and put his brother, Joseph, in charge. The colonists saw this as a sign of weakness by the Spanish and also as an opportunity to gain independence while the focus was in Europe. San Martin leading the revolution in Argentina also sparked a flame in some hearts and sparked the idea of revolution. Another very important factor was the trained army from the military revenues that resulted from the Bourbon reforms. The British attempted an attack on Buenos Aires and Montevideo unsuccessfully while the Creole led army pushed them back without the help of Spanish troops lead to the independence of Argentina after three years of the second attack on Montevideo by the British.
